In the Australian state of Tasmania, the ubiquitous nature exercises its most indelible. A destination that is special for the devotees of the outdoors, tranquility, turquoise water and adventure sports. Its cities are evidence of the English influence.
Chosen to southeastern Australia, Tasmania embodies an island in every sense for the country to which it belongs: geographical, cultural and architecturally.
Unlike that, where prevailing heat and desert covers much of its surface, Tasmanians (which account for almost half a million), have intermediate temperatures and abundant rainfall. And they have the privilege to be surrounded by an exuberant nature that makes the island a veritable paradise on earth.
30% of the islands, about 300 hectares, were you declare a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Ancient forests, which date back thousands of years, have the world’s oldest pine: 4 thousand years old.
The thick green covering the hills and reach the foot of black beaches formed by volcanic dust tine skin of bathers until water the crystalline Pacific carries, before the watchful eyes of the seagulls.
Rivers descend from the summit when the sun hits the ice and decided to terminate its quiet numb. Then the wires are cast singing sharply, and maybe an ear whispered prehistoric caves to the lagoon, which fills the interior of mysticism of the mountains.
Miles and miles of nature that is the delight of tourists who love the tranquility and fresh air. And is that Tasmania is one of the less contaminated areas of the planet. In its naturals parks live animal and plant species with a diverse topography. Animals as original as the platypus or the popular Tasmanian devil living among the abundant bushes and waterfalls of heaven, as the Russell Falls and Lady Barron Falls at Mt. Field National Park.
But those for whom the premiums end of the adventure find on this island an ideal place. The mountains exhibit features suitable to practice climbing, kayaking, free fall, the river raft, gliding, among others.
Great for Scouts, in the southeast of the island, the last frontier, the nature reserves are composed of a green unexplored, completely untouched, which extends in the form of forests, valleys and lakes, ending at a stream that clings with the sea. Here surfers test their skills riding giant waves, which also fueled other beaches on the island.
Another feature that differentiates a Tasmanian English aesthetic concerns of their cities. Inheritance, of course, the years of colonialism that shaped the most important cities (connected by excellent roads that run through winding precious places) as a reflection of feeling England.
Such is the case of the capital, Hobart, predominantly red-brick buildings. The imposing Mount Wellington, more than 1200 meters of altitude, retains rain coming from the Pacific and determining the dry climate that distinguishes a Hobartdel rest of the country.
Salamanca markets, the neighborhood of Battery Point (built 1840), the Cadbury chocolate factory, West Sea point, the whiskey distillery Gasworks Villa, Victorian Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens … only some of the views required. Not to mention the restaurants and seafood stalls along the coast.
In the early nineteenth century, the British in Tasmania found a suitable place to erect a jail where to send dangerous criminals. 12.500 convicts lived in Port Arthur prison, which operated from 1830 a 1870. The prisoners built railroads, bridges and buildings. The visit to the jail seems bound for the tourists, who may then undertake a tour of the impressive cliffs of the Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen Cave and notables.
