Vienna, the capital of Austria, is an ideal place to spend an unforgettable weekend visit the old town, or their incredible palaces such as Schönbrunn, and interesting museums such as the Belvedere.

To get to know Vienna (if it is a Saturday), we recommend starting the route on the antiques market Naschmarket (Kettenbrückengasse Metro station), where we can find any type of object imaginable new or used. Travel to Riga, the beautiful capital of Latvia

Riga, capital of Latvia, is situated at the mouth of the Daugava River, near the Baltic Sea. The historic center of Riga was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for the many Art Nouveau buildings, comparable with Vienna, Prague or Barcelona.

Riga was an ancient establishment of Livonians, which was founded in 1201 by the Bishop of Livonia. Although the city had been created by German merchants in the mouth of the Daugava in 1158. From that moment was one of the most important commercial centers of the Baltic Sea. The city converted to Lutheranism in 1521, and the country became part of Poland, Sweden, and finally in 1710 it was occupied by the Russians. The 1914 was the third city of the Russian empire. In 1918 Russia became independent and formed the capital of the Republic of Latvia. In 1940 the USSR occupied the country by force, and during the 1941 to 1944 he occupied by the Germans and suffered heavy damage and the destruction of most of its Jewish population. From 1945 to 1991 was capital of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, and since 1991 is again an independent country. (más…)

The headlights of the world

The headlights are constructions near the coast to help ships in the sea and warn of the dangers on the coast or harbor entrance.

The origin of the word is due to the lighthouse beacon built in the island of Pharos, opposite the city of Alexandria in ancient Egypt. This building, shaped tower built by the architect Sostratos of Knidos by order of Ptolemy II, had a height of 134 meters above the fire around to guide the ships to over 50 km away.

The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the most beautiful tombs of antiquity.

Halicarnassus (now Bodrum), is a city in Asia Minor which was refounded by Mausolus (353-377 BC), a satrap of the Persian Empire that, while it challenged in the revolt of the priests along with other leaders of the region, knew also return to “order” as Artaxerxes III regained control of the situation and it got ugly for the insurgents.

Mausolus was the son of Hecatomnus, an aristocrat who had obtained in the year 392 BC the satrap of Caria (southwestern Turkey today) at the hands of Artaxerxes II. Little is known of the youth of Mausolus, but is pretty sure he met the Spartan king Agesilaus II. (más…)
