Piriápolis is a beautiful spa, a small, quiet, one could say that almost therapeutic, located in the Department of Maldonado, Uruguay, an hour from Montevideo and a few minutes from the popular, bustling and attractive Punta del Este. Its population is approximately 7500 fixed inhabitants but its floating population increases significantly in the months of December to March, during high season, when they welcome visitors from all corners of the globe.

The founder was Piriápolis Francisco Pirie, who is impossible to disassociate from this place when we talk about its history. With every step and every nook in your spirit to remind us that the natural beauty of the man is transformed into places of dreams. For some the phrase head and reference point in his life, was «Fall in love with what you do.» This writer, journalist, alchemist, and perhaps many other things that were unable to transcend time, bought in 1890 and 2700 blocks of land that were born in the north of Cerro Pan de sugar and came to the sea. Piriápolis was born, trees all types, planted by his own hand begin to provide shade and to receive the first settlers. Olive, chestnut and pine trees, which today accompany the murmur of the sea under the soft summer breeze.

Piriápolis has an enormous natural beauty, upon his arrival the traveler is surprised at the azure sea, surrounded by soft green hills on the horizon cuts. These hills give us the opportunity to reach its peak while enjoying stunning views. Cerro San Antonio, the closest to the spa is a resort in itself, and can be reached at the summit by car, bus, walk or lift comfortably installed for this purpose. At the summit the temple ahead of San Antonio, with his image brought from Europe, where many people arrive on a pilgrimage of thanks or request, as it is reputed to do to find love single women.

At the foot of the hill, the image of the Virgen de los Pescadores, Capo Stella Maris dominates the bay and a guide to mariners when the waters are turbulent. Cerro del Toro, another tour of the hills, stands at 250 meters above sea level. The first part of the climb can be done by car, it will reach the fountain of the Toro, another source of Piriápolis with therapeutic properties. A bull, in cast iron, chairs the size of its source and mouth outbreak on bulk mineral water jet. The rest of the climb to the top, must be done on foot because of the steepness of the route. At the foot of this hill is the Fountain of Venus, which completes the Trilogy Sources decked the city.

Cerro Pan de Azúcar: measures over 380 meters tall. At its base is one of the largest and richest reserves of Uruguay, the breeding station fauna del Cerro Pan de Azúcar. To get to it should take the Route 37 that connects with Sugar Loaf Piriápolis and only 5 km. we will see this miracle that brings together much of the flora and fauna of the place, and where you can see endangered species.

The beaches of bathroom Piriápolis invite the sun and rest, but are also highly charged water sports, for which there is an area specially authorized for that purpose.

Piriápolis has a varied offer in hospitality. In high season (December-March), should make reservations as many tend to have filled its facilities.

How to get there?
It can be accessed by air from the International Airport of Carrasco or  International Airport Laguna del Sauce, and from there by bus or car to Piriápolis.

Road can be reached through various shipping companies to Terminal Tres Cruces in Montevideo, and then go directly to Piriápolis in car or bus.
