The Salt Cathedral in Colombia Zipaquirá

Very close to the north of Bogota is a place that combines history, the work of man and nature. Ideal combination that makes the salt cathedral Zipaquirá, is one of the great relics of modernity.

Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira born in 1995 and is before the Salt Mine, which for years was one of the main sources of income for the town of Zipaquira, located 48 kilometers from the majestic capital of Colombia. One of the oldest municipalities in Colombia even referring to the period before the conquest.

The Three Ships:

The Cathedral is composed of three naves. The first of these is known as the Ship of Birth, which is a baptismal font carved in rock salt, which indicates that children are baptized with water, brine, so that the battery does not lose its shape. In the center of the Cathedral is the main hall, known as the Ship of Life, there is located one of the world’s largest cross exotic and known by the fact of being carved in stone salt also has a replica of sculpture by Michelangelo in marble which is called «the creation of man.» Finally and the right is the Ship of Death, which as its name suggests remembers is the spiritual place where we come and to which we must return at the end of today, right this ship is the Convention Center, which since 1994 has been built for the celebration of important events.
