Nazareth–Israel

Religion stains every corner of Nazareth. The source from which to spread Christianity, and since then natural starting point for a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. A city of about 60,000 inhabitants, while more than half its population is Muslim, the largest Arab city in Israel where there are the minarets of mosques in the hands of churches. Nazareth is full of contrasts, such as modern buildings that protect and house the holy caves, ancient Byzantine churches and crusades and many traditions that coexist with the new fashions.

The footprints of the past are visible on the streets of the largest Arab city in Israel. And is that Nazareth has landed in the Third Millennium of Christianity as the source, the site of the first event of this religion which, according to the Bible, Jesus spent most of his life and from where the pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

But Nazareth combines two sides of your faith, and that 60% of the population is Muslim. This town of 60,000 of his time contains 30 Christian churches, convents and monasteries that bear witness to this past. And dominates the landscape architectural Basilica of the Annunciation, the largest in the Middle East, home to the cave where, according to tradition, was the home of Mary and the site of the Annunciation, and the remains of the Byzantine period and crusade. Well as locations where there were large architectural structures, such as the excavations inside the market where the old synagogue and the Greek Catholic church.

The Muslim worlds as there are abundant traces of mosques and minarets that are combined and coexist in harmony with other structures and religions. Thus, El Abyad, or White Mosque, which was long the only mosque in the city whose name is intended to symbolize purity, light and peace. A message even to the Mosque of Peace, also called El Salam Mosque, an impressive modern building built in the 60s.

Festivals and gastronomy:
Besides the churches, Nazareth is also home to many houses of the era of Turkish domination, which are impressive and majestic mansions known as the Old City. And numerous gardens and patios, also known as the souk, the outdoor market, an active trading center that provides the most varied delights for the visitor. The aroma of coffee, the bustle of a market itself popular feature oriental hospitality and numerous crafts, all with a religious tinge that characterizes Nazareth and, by extension, this outdoor market.

Worldly delights that are reflected in Mesopotamian majestic oriental restaurants which serves delicious grilled meat, various salads and fresh vegetables. And festivities, highlighting especially the crucial event that involves the Easter religious festival and all, as the Festival of Sacred Music, where many churches are involved with a wide variety of musical performances are held at Christmas, or the Folk Festival of Arabic in Nazareth, which is held in late summer.

And is that Nazareth is not wasted, either from the religious point of view or simply by visiting a beautiful city, surrounded by the hue that blends Christian and Muslim, for that nice and peaceful mix of religions and cultures will not be wasted for any visitor.
