Travel to the municipality of Frigiliana – «The Jewel of Axarquia».

Most visitors to the Costa del Sol, stay on the western side of the coast with the famous towns of Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola and Marbella. However, east of Malaga to the area known as the Axarquia, well worth the effort. The best known resource on this side of the coast is Nerja, but if you travel a few miles inland Frigiliana is reached, the undisputed jewel of the area.

Arriving at the town hall of Frigiliana:

Coming from the direction of Malaga, in the highway N-340, take exit 292 marked Nerja / Frigiliana, then turn inside MA105 Frigiliana. This road will take you to the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda / Sierra Almijara and in no time at all, the very people who are at a height of 435 meters above sea level. Frigiliana At the entrance to a roundabout you should go straight, so that part of the «historic» or old part of town. You can park along this road or in the parking lot at the end of the right. From here it’s time to trust your feet!
Looking to the first thing people notice is the cane factory «molasses,» the only one still exists in Europe. This factory was built in the late sixteenth century as home to one of the noble families of Frigiliana and, nearby, the Tourist Information Office is located in a building of the same age.

Tours of Frigiliana:

This is the best place to start our visit to Frigiliana, to enjoy this beautifully restored building, take a look at the small museum and exhibition center, and, of course, pick up a brochure describing the battle of Frigiliana. Throughout the old part of town are 12 ceramic plaques depicting the famous battle of the last to be held in this area between the Moors and Christians in 1569. Following the route you will visit, find places with hidden courtyards and cobbled streets, finishing in the main towns and church. Take a look inside and then relax with a coffee or a glass of dessert wine in the Church Square.

At the end of Calle Real will meet again in «El Ingenio». You go take a look, the pottery shop alone is worth the effort. Also, when walking past the factory gets a view of the river gorge and Screaming into the mountains. If the roads you have not been defeated, why not continue to go along Calle San Sebastián? in the new part of town or on the side of the creek. Any route has much to offer. Since the higher route you can find spectacular views of the gorge and mountains, and a route to go to the villages.
