Alausí and the Devil’s Nose in Ecuador

Alausí is a small town in the upper rail of the famous Nariz del Diablo (Devil’s Nose ). The city is guarded by an enormous statue of San Pedro. Here you can see attractive old houses; some still are the original buildings of adobe, on a line of steep streets. The best months to visit Alausí son from June to December, as the rainy season covers the black clouds, and the views are declining. (más…)

The La Albufera Nature Park

If you take the road south from the city of Valencia, you’ll soon come to the beautiful Albufera Nature Park and the Dehesa de El Saler. The Park, which could be regarded as the real “lungs” of the city, is of exceptional ecological value and a paradise for migratory birds, so much so that it is included in the list of internationally important wetlands established by the Ramsar Convention and has been declared a Special Protection Area for Birds.

The La Albufera de Valencia area is also important cultural point of view, as it preserves many aspects of a traditional way of life which has been profusely reflected in literature – especially the marvellous cuisine based on locally-produced natural products from the rice fields, fishing and local smallholdings.
