Garcí Manuel de Carbajal, Spanish conqueror, was the founder of the Spanish city of Arequipa on 15 August 1540 under the name “Villa Hermosa de Arequipa.” During the colonial period was favored by being the midpoint of caravans carrying huge loads of rich silver mines of Potosi (Bolivia) to Quilca port that shipped to El Callao and Spain.
