Often stress the need to carry on our mountain tours and trips such basic tools as a compass and map (on these elements in courses taught SFLM). Maps are many and varied. Indeed a map is a representation of the land surface and can be anything from a simple and schematic drawing up a letter accurate and complete. Its efficiency as a basic orientation in mountain and reliability depend on the degree of information. Although masked by its urban layout, the village is seated on a rugged area called ‘The Cliff’, practically hanging over the Ebro River to a height above sea level of 431 meters. If, on the south side of the Ebro serves as a natural boundary on the eastern side it is the stream valley, so that the entire town is facing the sun, sheltered by the hills of Misamayor.

The old part of Lapuebla is located on the west side of town around the church of Our Lady of the Assumption. On these streets you can look at many coats of arms on the facades of its Renaissance houses tidy and in perfect condition, like the one in the midday street, dating from the sixteenth century. Few weather events are so impressive and fearsome as the storms on the mountain. The speed with which they form and its unusual violence can put up stiff resistance to anyone who is caught by them without the possibility of shelter. In gullies occurs within seconds floods that drag everything in its path, including the helpless climbers who could not get out of bed on time. The consequences in these cases tend to be almost always fatal, either by drowning or traumatic injuries. Climbers must fight the wind, hail, the sudden drop in temperatures and waterfalls and rocks falling from the top.
